Google's latest entry into the podcast market, Google Podcasts, isn't converting the number of Android listeners we'd hoped. Or is it? Have you used it? What can we do to get more people using Google Podcasts and if we're not successful, do you think Google will pull the plug...once again?
Join Ray, Dave, Daniel, Paul Colligan, and John Wilkerson to discuss the Google Podcast directory and other podcasting news.

Pandora is one of the last, big audio platforms to introduce podcasts but do they offer anything new besides another place to list your podcast? Which by the way, would probably be good enough considering the potential exposure to a whole new audience. But still, what's different? And what have they already done wrong?

There are a lot of podcasts in the Apple Podcasts directory and by default, many other directories. But out of more than 500K podcasts, less than 25% of those will publish a new episode this year. So what's wrong? Is podcasting too difficult to maintain? Is it too easy to start?
Join Ray, Dave, Daniel, and Andre Lewis to discuss recent stories in the podcasting industry and how they relate to you, a podcast producer.

Main Takeaway: Several podcasts still exist in Google Podcasts with a Castbox feed, instead of redirecting the feeds, they are simply broken. Also, I’ve discovered unintentional duplicates and omissions based on some podcaster oversights or Google’s method

Title: TalkShoe is Relaunching
Main Takeaway: The featureset sounds amazing: doing mixing, call-ins, even streaming straight to YouTube Live from their site. All things I wish I could offset, as I have to use two computers for one of my shows to achieve this. The catch: FREE, I see NOWHERE where it is mentioned how to pay. As a creator, I have had my share of my own content go away from free hosts. Some of my early stuff was on Blip.tv’s free plans. I don’t want to see content people create gone and missing forever.

Title: From Podnews: Radiotopia launch Everything is alive today, interviewing inanimate objects about their daily life.
Main Takeaway: This shows the beauty of podcasting. I actually felt an emotional connection to the can of cola, Louis. This is a fictionalized podcast, but it shows how you can connect with a podcaster/guest. This helps with serious topics as well. I’ve had my perspective shifted because I heard someone describe why they believe something.

We're trying a new format on the Roundtable today. Each Roundtabler is choosing a couple podcasting news items and we'll discuss. I think you'll find the format very informative. I'm already enjoying the format just reading all the chosen articles! Should be fun, come join us live if you can and join the discussion in the chat!
One of the stories I've chosen is about asking for ratings and reviews. "Do podcasters really need to beg for ratings and reviews?" What do ratings and reviews really do for your podcast? In short, in Apple Podcasts, probably not much...at least for the algorithm but they might go a long way to get more people to sample your podcast.

What else does podcasting need in order to grow in 2018?
This is not a prediction show. We want to know, as a podcaster, what would you like to see happen in podcasting? What needs to have? What resource, tool, service, event, would you like to see. What do you think will help podcasting as a medium over the next year?
Join Ray Ortega, Dave Jackson, Joshua Liston, and Rob Greenlee to discuss what podcasting still needs.
