Don't start a podcast in order to make money, there's no here to be made. Or so they say. What does making money in podcasting really mean and is there a chance to earn cash from your podcast?

Join Ray, Dave, Daniel, Eric Hunley, James Thomas to answer the question of can you make money in podcasting as well as a discussion around the articles linked below.

Articles Discussed:

Title: Adblock Radio is an Adblocker for Live Radio Streams and Podcasts

Main Takeaway: The creator is a bit of a jerk. He goes nuts trying to cover for the fact that he just wants to skip ads. Loudness wars?! Pfft! “He also feels that ads try to trigger impulse buying by exploiting our emotions and serendipitous discovery, short circuiting our rational thoughts.”

Title: You’ll Never Make Money Podcasting

Main Takeaway: This has some folks irritated and I can see where it is not completely accurate but it may still be good for setting expectations low.

James Thomas

Title: How to get your podcast heard

Main Takeaway: There are many podcast pundits in the wild who may be misleading or building hope in podcasters who are unwilling to do the work to get their name out there. It takes time, dedication and perseverance.

BTW: Doing the podcast that I do I find that I have to deal with issues Stateside-side podcasters rarely have to worry about (ie: time, location, language, third-world Internet problems, local political events and regulations).

Title: How to make your podcast stand out

Main Takeaway: This is an issue that is always on my mind. Not all podcast topics or niches will bring in thousands of listeners. The truth is some topics and niches have a small sample area. Maybe the key is to remember that most podcasters should look at their podcast as a tool to promote other things like  a product, service, foundation or club.

Title: Podcasts Are Getting Attacked With Negative Reviews With No Help in Sight

Main Takeaway: if platforms such as Facebook and Yelp detect a business is being unfairly targeted with negative reviews they’ll temporarily suspend the ability to leave reviews. Me? Remove reviews altogether. Do we need them?

Is Apple going to start investing money in original podcasts? Spotify, Luminary, Stitcher, there are plenty of places that have podcasts that can only be consumed on a their own platform. Is that really a podcast? Does it matter if it's not?

Join Ray, Dave, Danieand Stephanie Fuccio to answer the question of whether Apple investing in podcast programming would be a good thing either for them or the podcast space.

Many podcasters will complain that 'the system' as it exists doesn't do enough to help grow their show. That they can't gain enough of an audience because they are locked out of the top charts or not part of a big network, but is that true? Is there more you could be doing for yourself to grow your show? Likely, yes.

Join Ray, Dave, Evo Terra and Natalie Torres to discuss podcast audience growth, podcast networks, and more podcasting news and stories.
